From the President:

Up, Up and Away
...into a new decade
Is it really time for the beginning of the fall season and the
excitement that it brings? At the Lubbock Women's Club our staff and
board members are working hard to ready the club for a wonderful
Community Open House designed to showcase the club to our friends in
the community. I hope you will take time to look around the club to
see the final results of the building expansion and how it has
enhanced the beauty of our historical club.
I know everyone is looking forward to viewing the beautiful new fall
fashions from Doncaster at the September Fashion show on Thursday,
September 2. After the Labor Day Holiday we can all enjoy the Tailgate
Party on Thursday, September 9 at noon. Then Friday, September 10, Judy
Caffee, our Membership Chairman and her committee, will entertain all
new members of the club with lunch and information. If you sponsored a
new member this year, I hope you will be able to attend this luncheon
and help us welcome our newest members.
Although Labor Day precludes First Monday Game Day, we will still have
two opportunities for fun with Third Monday Game Day on September 20 and
the Autumn Games Benefit on Monday, September 27. Other programs for the
month include: The One Room Schoolhouse, Forensic Sciences, Treasures of
the World, and China: Design and Construction Process.
As we enter the fall months, we are excited to announce a renewed
opportunity to purchase a brick to be placed in the Historic Brick
Walkway leading to the west front entrance of the club. This project was
begun under the leadership of former President Gertrude Miller, and many
members purchased bricks during the 2006 – 2007 club year. However, we
have new members and also those who did not participate at the time who
will want place a brick on the walkway. Forms for purchasing bricks will
be available through Toni's office at the club or from representatives
at club events. The cost of each brick will be $100, and the proceeds
will go to The Lubbock Women’s Club Historical Foundation.
Our new Lubbock Women's Club cookbook, A Culinary Adventure, is just
delightful, and all of those who worked on this major fund raising
project under the direction of Kaye Greer and Elaine Milam are to be
congratulated for their hours of proofing and editing. If you have not
bought your copy, please see Toni in the office or one of the committee
members at club events. You will be delighted with the exquisite art
work of Dolores Bennett and Kendra Lansdell and the variety of recipes
of both the club and fellow members.
The 2010 -2011 Lubbock Women's Club yearbook is wonderful. Thanks to our
vice president Elaine Milam for her attention to such detail in
producing our new Yearbook.
Cathie and her staff are anxious to accommodate all of our needs with
the new look of the club. Please remember to book your fall and holiday
events and take advantage of the lovely new space available for special
events for both members and participating clubs. I'll see you soon as we
enter this exciting fall season!.
